Window replacement options you can rely on.
Window Makeover replaces windows across metro Atlanta, from our shop in Marietta. We work with Marvin, Sierra Pacific, Andersen, Pella and Kolbe, so you get a genuine choice of frame material, style and glass package rather than whatever one manufacturer happens to stock.
Before we quote a replacement, we will tell you honestly whether you need one. Most of the Atlanta homeowners who call us about replacing their windows do not need to replace all of them, and often do not need to replace any. Restoring a sound window costs a fraction of replacing it, and our repair process handles wood rot, foggy glass, failed seals and broken hardware without touching the frame. Where replacement genuinely is the right answer, we will say so and explain why.
When replacement is the right call
Replacement earns its cost in a handful of situations. These are the ones we see most often in Atlanta homes:
- The frame has gone past repair. Surface wood rot is repairable. Rot that has reached the structural members of the frame is not.
- The window no longer operates safely. Sashes that will not stay up, will not lock, or will not open in an emergency.
- Single-pane glass in a conditioned room. In an Atlanta summer, single glazing is the largest and most persistent load on your HVAC.
- You are changing the opening. A different size, a different shape, or a new window where there was not one before.
- Storm or impact damage that has compromised the frame as well as the glass.
- You are selling. Windows are one of the first things buyers and inspectors look at, and one of the few improvements that reads as maintenance rather than taste.
Wood or vinyl: choosing your windows
Both are good windows. Which one suits your home depends on its age, its style and how much maintenance you want to take on.
Wood Windows
Wood windows provide a timeless, classy, and rustic look for virtually any style of home. Windows made of wood may be slightly more expensive and require more maintenance than standard vinyl windows, but the tradeoff is well worth it as they offer many unique benefits that other types of windows can’t match. Vinyl Windows
Windows are one of the most important parts of any house, so it’s vital to invest in high-quality windows that will last for years to come. Vinyl windows have become the standard in the United States due to their dependable quality, affordability, and long-term reliability. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option for replacing the windows in your home, vinyl windows are an ideal choice. Read More
What to expect from the process
- Free in-home estimate. We measure every opening, assess the frames, and tell you which windows need replacing and which can be restored instead.
- Selection. You choose frame material, style, glass package and finish. We bring samples so you are deciding with the material in your hands.
- Custom order. Your windows are built to your exact measurements. Nothing is forced into an opening it was not made for.
- Installation. Our own crews, never subcontractors. Most homes are completed in one to two days.
- Cleanup and walkthrough. We haul away the old units and walk every window with you before we leave.
Windows and the Atlanta climate
Georgia weather is hard on windows in ways that are easy to underestimate. Long humid summers drive moisture into wood frames and put constant load on sealed glass units. Heat and direct sun degrade seals and fade interiors. Pollen season coats and clogs tracks and weep holes. Winter is short but swings sharply, and repeated expansion and contraction is what eventually fails a spacer bar.
That is why glass package matters more here than the brochure suggests. Low-E coatings cut the solar heat gain that drives your cooling bill from May through September, and a properly specified double-glazed unit does more for comfort in an Atlanta home than an upgrade in frame material will. When we quote, we specify the glass for the orientation of each opening, because a west-facing room and a north-facing room are not the same problem.
What drives the cost
We will not quote a price on a web page, because anyone who does is guessing at your house. What we can tell you is what actually moves the number:
- How many windows genuinely need replacing. Usually fewer than people expect. This is the single biggest lever, and it is why the estimate is free.
- Frame material. Vinyl is the value option. Wood costs more up front and asks for maintenance, and looks right on homes where vinyl never will.
- Size, shape and operation. Standard double-hung units cost less than bays, bows, arches and custom shapes.
- Glass package. Low-E, argon fill, tempered or laminated glass where code or exposure calls for it.
- Condition of the surrounding structure. Rot in the surrounding framing has to be made good before a new window goes in.
Choosing restoration over replacement where the frames allow it can save up to 70 percent against the cost of new units. We will always tell you when that option is on the table.

Common questions
Can you replace just the glass instead of the whole window?
Often, yes. If the frame is sound and the problem is a failed seal or broken pane, we can build a new insulating glass unit to fit your existing window. See foggy glass repair.
How long does installation take?
Most homes are finished in one to two days once the windows arrive. Custom orders take longer to build than stock sizes, and we will give you a realistic date at the estimate rather than an optimistic one.
Do I have to replace every window at once?
No. Many Atlanta homeowners replace the worst elevation first and phase the rest. We will help you work out which openings are costing you the most in comfort and energy.
Will new windows really lower my energy bill?
They reduce cooling load, which in Atlanta is where the money goes. How much depends on what you have now. Replacing single-pane glass makes a difference you can feel; swapping serviceable double glazing for slightly better double glazing usually does not pay for itself.
